In 2015 a school wide walking program was instituted at Cambridge School as a means to promote a healthy school culture for our students.
The name of our program is called
"Cougars On The Move".
Since the inception of our program,
Cambridge School has walked a total of
1,557.91 Miles!!!
It is the hope that every class in the building takes the opportunity to get outside at least ONE DAY a week and take a walk!
The program runs from September through June. We have witnessed over the past few years, that this walking program was a win-win for our entire school community, especially for those who benefit from a movement break or don't get the opportunity to be active outside of the regular school day.
Each month classroom teachers are given a mileage form and they keep track of the distance their class walked during the month. We offer three walking options: a school loop (1/4 mile), neighborhood loop (3/4 mile) and an inside option (1/4 mile). Each month those classes in each grade level with the highest mileage are recognized. The winning classes for each grade receive a monthly Grade Level Winner Mileage Certificate and the classes with the highest overall mileage for the school year are celebrated during our whole school assembly on the last day of school!
Our overall mileage goal is based on the individual goals set by each class.
The 2019 - 20 goal set by the students was (TBA Miles) and (TBA Participant Miles). Our year to date stats for 2019 - 20 can be found here.
There is a bulletin board located in the main hallway that serves as a visual for our initiative. Each class has a designated paw print that will show their mileage with an orange mileage bar above it. Monthly Grade Level Winners are also recognized with a yellow ribbon above their name.
Billion Mile Race
Our school has once again been registered for the Billion Mile Race. Our participant mileage will be added to the New Balance Nationwide initiative to unite the efforts of schools across the nation to walk and run ONE BILLION MILES. This year, our goal is to break into the Top 10 Schools in the state of New Jersey.
